Oiled Guillemots pay with their lives, for acts of human negligence.
These - hard to identify lumps - are heavily oiled Guillemots found and photographed by Karl Laban on a Devon beach in 2002. They are just a few of a much larger number that were collected up and placed on a pallet but there were many more scattered amongst rocks and too thickly oiled to be handled without suitable gloves etc.
Only three were found alive, thankfully they were treatable and made a full recovery.
Seeing dead or dying creatures never gets any easier. Wild creatures have enough to cope with besides the damage caused by we humans.
